Ultima VII: The Black Gate is the seventh game in the Ultima series by Lord British, aka. Richard Garriott and the first game in the Guardian Trilogy. It brought a whole new level of interactivity to the game world, allowing the character to move everything that wasn't too heavy for them, as well as use items together to create new items, eg making freshly baked bread from self picked wheat, grinding it to flour, mixing the flour with water and then baking it.
The Avatar receives a strange vision on his homeworld of Earth from a disembodied mocking red head. Realising this must be a call to Britannia, the Avatar sets out and finds a moongate waiting. On arriving in Brittania, he finds his old friend Iolo at the scene of vicious murder. Investigating this murder leads the Avatar into a deep conspiracy. Why are the peolpe of Britannia so depressed? Who is the mysterious assassin Hook? Who is the mysterious Guardian? And what role does the seemingly benign Fellowship play in all this?
