User Summary

Canine Warrior Chu is a Kai Ken dog entrusted with the Loyalty Orb and was one of three Canine Warrior’s who left Kusa Village. Canine Warrior Chu is found living in Kamiki Village under the name Hayabusa ("peregrine falcon") as Mushi's dog. Despite knowing Princess Fuse has summoned him Chu refuses to move from where he stands in order to await the Kamiki Village festival. After being beaten in battle Chu explains that he is not the real Canine Warrior Chu who died with Mushi's father fighting monsters. Before the real Chu died he foretold of an evil arrow from the sky that would kill Mushi on the night of the festival which is why he will not move. After proclaiming it is his duty to fulfill the real Chu’s dying wish to save Mushi the Loyalty Orb is transferred to Amaterasu relieving Chu of his duty to Kusa Village and the Canine Warriors.

The Satomi Canine Warriors are eight dogs of various breeds who serve the Satomi House. Each possesses a different virtue in the form of a ‘Satomi Power Orb’ that grants them great power. Despite their duty to Kusa Village, Princess Fuse, and the Gale Shrine the Canine Warriors do not take their training seriously and will frequently disobey orders or ignore them completely due to having been spoiled by their previous master Yatsu. When the Gale Shrine fell to Crimson Helm and Kusa Village became ensnared in an evil essence Princess Fuse summoned the Satomi Canine Warriors. When they never came she sent Amaterasu to find them and upon their return started to train them seriously unlike Yatsu. An item called the ‘Canine Tracker’ is capable of locating the Canine Warriors when needed and will force them to return to Princess Fuse. But use of this item decrees that its user must prove their worth by beating the canines in battle, however only four of the eight Canine Warriors ever bother.

Character Quotes:

"My duty is to fulfill Hayabusa’s dying wish. I must protect Mushi." -Canine Warrior Chu

"In a village protected by divine wind... Evil forces have squelched the blessed breeze... The time has come to assemble the 8 spirits once again!" -Madame Fawn

"The 8 spirits are eager to undo the evil that blocks the wind. Once again set foot in the village protected by a tree. A brave dog spirit waits patiently for your arrival." -Madame Fawn

"'Chu' stands for 'loyalty'.
To give one's whole life for the good of one's master...
To focus on the goal with all of one's concentration..." -Beastiary Entry

Trivia:

The Canine Warrior’s were originally planed to have both dog and human forms however the idea was later scraped. What human forms were created can be seen in the Okami art book.

The eight canine warriors represent the eight virtues of Confucianism with Chu representing Chūkō; "dog of loyalty".
