Alima is a horse breeder and leader of the village Bayan. She has a younger, mentally handicapped brother named Lebo with whom she has a stressed relationship. She also had a husband who was a tailor but after failing to return from a trip in search of food had been presumed dead. The Mangano family who holds considerable power in the area has a strong distaste for her as dose the general public who openly speak out against Alima’s decisions.
A prolonged drought caused a food shortage forcing neighboring villages to stop trading goods to preserve their own supplies. In an attempt to prevent the villagers from starving Alima started killing off her horses to use as a food source, a decision that has upset the residents of Bayan. After her best horse falls ill she becomes desperate for a solution and seeks the players help. Alima offers up her best horse for free if the player can cure it’s illness and convince Altan, the village leader of Halhin to trade with them again.
Selen of the Mangano family unofficially controls Halhin and can either be killed at which point Altan will continue trade or she offers to continue trade if Alima steps down as leader of Bayan and Lebo takes over.
