Unlike other gnomes, Wilbur shows no particular enthusiasm for technology and machinery. His heart belongs to the world of magic and adventures. Wilbur works as "chief cook and bottle washer” at a pub in a dwarf bastion at the foot of the Whitcomb Mountains. This is where the adventurous journey begins, which will see Wilbur, a simple-hearted daydreamer, turn into a professional magician and become the driving force of the party of heroes.
Wilbur Weathervane has been appointed the first and so far only teacher at the reopened School for Wizardry and Witchcraft in Seastone. A job that he doesn’t quite feel up to. The school building appeared out of nothing on the town square of Seastone one day and noone really knows where it came from. Wilbur’s magic wand is going haywire and his friend, the King of Thieves, thinks that someone is plotting an assault on the archmage.
