Shiranui is the sun goddess and guardian deity of the Celestial Plain. She is in the form of a white wolf with crimson markings and wields one of three divine instruments: the Reflector, Beads, and Glaive with several variations of each. The most iconic of the divine instruments is the Solar Flare which appears as a spinning red Chinese mirror surrounded by red, yellow, and green colored flames. Additionally Shiranui can temporarily stop time to draw things into existence with the Celestial Brush. With the brush she can direct water, fire, wind, bloom flowers, bring out the sun and moon, cut enemy and obstacle alike along with many other abilities.
When Orochi attacked the Celestial Plain Shiranui defended her home and the two fell to the mortal plain locked in battle. Once there Orochi started a right of sacrifice, demanding a maiden every year from Kamiki Village while Shiranui held back awaiting the birth of Nagi who Waka foretold would slay Orochi. After 100 years of waiting Nagi was born and Shiranui traveled to Kamiki Village every year at the time of the sacrifice to seek his aid in the battle but Nagi and the residents of the village mistook Shiranui’s presence for being that of a familiar of Orochi. Finally the day came when Nagi challenged Orochi and Shiranui fought alongside him. Together they sealed Orochi away but Shiranui perished and a shrine was erected in her honor near the sacred tree Konohana where a 100 years later Shiranui would be awakened from her slumber as Amaterasu to face Orochi once again.
