Obelix is a fictional character, hero of the most popular Franco-Belgian comics in the world, co-created by writer Rene Goscinny and artist Albert Uderzo. Obelix first appeared in the magazine Asterix the Gaul, in 1959. He is portrayed as a large man having great strength, as he fell into Getafix's magic cauldron when he was a baby. He is Asterix's closest friend and he is always followed by his dog Dogmatix. He also carries a menhir behind his back when not bashing Romans.
