Ascaron Entertainment was a developer located in Gütersloh, Germany and was founded under the name Ascon in 1992. Due to possible confusion with the Swiss company Ascom AG, the company changed its name to Ascaron Entertainment in October 1996. They produced titles primarily for the PC and are best known for their Sacred series.
In April 2009 the company was unable to pay its debts, citing the extended development time of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel as the reason. The company continued trading in the hope that a solution could be found but in July 2009 the company became defunct. Kalypso Media purchased many of the licenses and assets from Ascaron Entertainment with the exception of Sacred which was acquired by Deep Silver.
