What Are Assets/Unity Games?
"Assets" are the models, levels, art, and coding that make up a game. Most companies can produce their own custom assets for use in their games. Other companies are in the business of producing generic "assets" for the purpose of selling to independent developers/persons as a way to aid them in the constructing of their own game. Sometimes fully coded, playable games are created and sold to less skilled developers so that they can transform it into their own work.
What Are Asset Flips?
Unity Assets are a great tool for developers and may help in areas the developer is not adequately skilled, such as coding or modeling. However, an unfortunate practice has emerged in which someone buys a Unity game and then attempts to re-sell it "as is" under a new name. This practice is called an "Asset Flip".
Why Does This Franchise Exist?
VGG allows Dev kit games into the database and the same Dev kit game being sold under a new name as an "asset flip" is confusing, misleading, and results in duplicate database entries. This franchise was created as a way to group all the Unity Dev kit games in the database and hopefully make sorting and determining what is and isn't an asset flip easier. We hope this franchise will serve as a vital management tool for VGG's user base and admins.
