Shooter games typically involve the player having to shoot opponents and proceed through missions with a gun or other long-range weapon. Some may have limited ammunition and thus requires the player to use it wisely. Play style may vary widely or little depending on the type of shooter being played; tactical, first-person, or third-person.
Tactical shooters simulate realistic combat usually squad-based or man-to-man skirmishes that make tactics and caution more important than quick reflexes in other games. Tactical shooters involving military combat are sometimes called "soldier sims". First-person shooters are characterized by taking things from the in-game character's point of view while third-person shooters are characterized by showing the player character in his or her surroundings.
