From Wikipedia: Activision is an American video game developer and publisher, majority owned by French conglomerate Vivendi SA. It was founded on October 1, 1979 and was the first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming consoles.

As of January 2017, Activision is one of the largest third-party video game publishers in the world and was also the top publisher for 2016 in the United States.

  • In 1988, Activision changed its name to Mediagenic. Mediagenic consisted of four groups: Activision, Infocom, Gamestar and Ten point O.
  • In December 1992, Mediagenic changed its name back to Activision.
  • In 2008, Activision, Inc. merged with Vivendi Games to create Activision Blizzard.
