The Anomaly series of games features what 11 bit studios have aptly dubbed tower offense. Imagine a classic path-locked tower defense game (as opposed to the free-form sort). Now switch roles: The player runs the offenders along the path while the AI's towers try to eliminate the player's troops. One of the core mechanisms that makes Anomaly series work is that the player also plots the path (often on the fly) among the available, discrete options. Anomaly 2 introduced a multiplayer mode that pits tower offense against tower defense.
