Ōkami is a series of action-adventure games with heavily influences from Japanese mythology and folklore. They have a large emphasis on art and are presented in a sumi-e style and feature a unique game-play element that allows the player to draw things into existence with the Celestial Brush. References to art related issues such as "plagiarism" and "quality suffering when you cut corners" are often brought up in character dialogue and situations. The games are known for occasional light-hearted humor and an over-arching theme of resolve.
The story revolves around the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu and her son Chibiterasu who are both in the form of a wolf (A pun on the games title). They must traverse Nippon reviving the cursed land, banishing evil, reclaiming their power, and restoring humanities faith. Along the way they are assisted by a friend or many friends and are assisted by the gods of the brush and the Kodama Sakuya.
