The Bubble Bobble series of video games star two dragons, Bub and Bob, who must traverse dangerous environments populated by deadly enemies. To destroy these enemies, they must use their bubble breath to capture the monsters, then jump and pop the resulting bubble prison. If they are unable to pop the bubbles fast enough, the monsters may break free and emerge even angrier than before!
The Bubble Bobble series is a bit complicated to follow. It started with the arcade game Bubble Bobble in 1986. Taito then continued to make "spirital sequels" like Rainbow Islands (1987) and Parasol Stars (1991), that had characters and subtitles referring to Bubble Bobble.
In 1993, there was a NES/GB only release called Bubble Bobble part 2. However, the second "real" Bubble Bobble – Bubble Symphony – didn't arrive until 1994. The reason this is seen as the "real" second game in the series is because the next title, Bubble Memories in 1996, came with the subtitle "Bubble Bobble III". Both were for arcade. "Bubble Symphony" was straight out called "Bubble Bobble 2" in the West.
The original Bubble Bobble was released as a remake for Xbox Live Arcade under the name of Bubble Bobble Neo.
