The PlayStation Vita edition of the game allows for cross-platform play with users of the Windows edition of the game, by allowing characters to be synced between copies. The game experience is modified slightly, by reducing the number of enemies that spawn in instanced areas, and reducing the size/complexity of instanced area textures/models. As well, the PlayStation Vita's touch controls are fully utilized for the game interface.
This Japanese edition is restricted, by Sega, to PlayStation Vita consoles located within the country of Japan. Access to this version of the game is only available through the Japanese PlayStation Network, and limited to accounts with a registered Japanese address. These restrictions and limitations are enforced by Phantasy Star Online 2's Terms of Service, which state that any account found in violation of these terms (notably, originating from a non-Japanese location) are subject to termination without notice. For the internationally-accessible PlayStation Vita edition, see the release labelled PlayStation Vita PSN edition.
