Dormast City Guard

Faction Overview

There is at least one Dormast City Guard post on each section of Dormast, and housing for the City Guard is concentrated in the eastern Barracks district of the city. The City Guard is overwhelmingly male and Human with xenophobia of non-Humans rampant. The rank and file of the Dormast City Guard wears livery of leather hauberks with a white lion passant on an oval of lavender on the chest with leather helmets and are issued hauberks. The officers wear the same hauberks but with steel breast plates over them and steel helmets while carrying shortswords. Some of the officers wear lavender or purple plumes on their steel helmets which can become ostentatious.

Beliefs

1. The King's Law is always just.
2. Dormast, City of Humanity, is greater than Althera and anywhere else in the Hourglass Realm.
3. Many non-Humans, especially Elves, are spies for Althera looking for an opportunity to harm the city and its king.

Goals

Follow the commands of the King to protect the royal family and keep order in the city.

Goals

Protect the king, nobles, and citizens of Dormast, and enforce the King's Law by hunting down magic users in and around Dormast.

Dormast Noble Families

Faction Overview

There are dozens of minor noble families in Dormast, but they all serve the three most powerful noble houses: Radu, Torenescu, and Vorloi.

Beliefs

The different noble families of Dormast have different beliefs, but they all start with the belief that Dormast would be best run by their own families.

Goals

All Dormast noble families share the goal of advancing their own family until they are royals and running Dormast. The minor families have the public goal of supporting their upper houses, but secretly they want to promote their own house.

Dormast Thieves Guild

Faction Overview

The Dormast Thieves Guild prides itself on being 'honest' and 'fair' They have a set of rules which all members must follow. One of the most well-known rules of the Thieves Guild is that each citizen of Dormast can only be mugged once a year. At the end of each mugging, the victim is given a yellow ticket with a date and stamp that exempts them from future muggings for a full year. Another guild rule is that their members can only kill in self defense. Because the guild strictly enforces these rules on their members, the Dormast City Guard mostly ignores the Thieves Guild. However, the Dormast Noble Houses are not as forgiving.

The Dormast Thieves Guild is comprised of multiple 'gangs'. Each gang controls a section of the city, and they protect their territory from other gangs and non-guild thieves. The gangs must follow all of the guild's rules, and in addition each gang has their own set of rules and traditions. If a gang repeatedly flaunts the guild's rules, then the guild brands the errant gang as marked and commands the other gangs to eliminate them. This threat keeps the gangs mostly in line. Commonly known gang names of the Dormast Thieves Guild are the Shadow Crossing Gang, Blackteeth Clan, and Right-Sized Gang.

Beliefs

1. Wealth belongs to those who can control it.
2. Life and freedom belong to each individual.
3. Adherence to guild rules maintains balance in the city.

Goals

Enrichment of all guild members by building strong gangs, balancing power between gangs, and preventing conflict with the government by enforcing the rules.

Dormast Circle

Faction Overview

During centuries of Human building and farming, the Webwood Forest was pushed further and further south. There are very, very few trees left within leagues of Dormast. However, there is still natural life in the grasslands, hills, and desert surrounding Dormast. There are rumors of tunnels and caves under Dormast teeming with weird creatures. More life is found in the foothills and mountains to the east and trees to the far south. All of this is watched over by the Dormast Circle which is comprised of Druids and others wishing to protect nature in, under, and around Dormast.

Beliefs

1. Just because there are no trees does not mean there's no life.
2. Life in all settings must be balanced to maintain the system.
3. The Humans of Dormast deserve to live, but so do the other creatures of the Hourglass Realm.

Goals

Monitor Dormast and balance the actions of its Humans with the needs of surrounding life.

Black Robes

Faction Overview

A secretive cult of water elementalists, the people of Dormast know them as the Black Robes. The Black Robes are feared in the city, but many seek them out for money and promises of a better life. The Black Robes are known to recruit poor, young Human men in the slums of Dormast. These recruits are promised a better life and given cheap black cloaks to wear. No one has evidence of a black cloak performing anything other than menial labor.

Brown Robes

Faction Overview

A secretive cult of earth elementalists, the people of Dormast know them as the Brown Robes. Very little is known of the Brown Robes as they have only been spotted a few times in or around the city. There are rumors that they are enemies of the Black Robes so must not be bad guys.
