Background:
Raghadast Simperion IV is from a long history of military leaders. His father, grandfather and great-grandfather all achieved the status of General in the Valhallarn Planetary Defense Force although none of them ever served in the Imperial Guard.

When Valhallarn was called upon to tithe a new regiment, and Raghadast's lottery ticket was drawn, his family celebrated. Finally, a member of one of Valhallarn's most celebrated military families would get a chance to bring honor to the Simperion's off world. Raghadast showed up at Training Day with an air of entitlement and nobility. He expected, like would have happened in the PDF, he would be immediately made an officer after Basic Training and quickly rise through a series of desk jobs to the upper ranks.

Much to Raghadast's horror, that was not how things worked in the Guard. He was made a private! Horror of horror and put in with the commoners. Some were even from the Valhallarn low cities. And then it was found he was good with a gun and made a heavy gunner. Absolutely no mention was made of becoming even a sergeant of his squad.

His squadsmen took to calling him "Rags", a further slight. Despite Raghadast's letters to every superior he could name and letters from his family, Rags was denied every appeal for a higher rank. His test scores and awful hand-to-hand combat skills in fact made him nearly a liability to his squad. Only his gun training kept him from washing out.

While Rags would never be openly insuboridnate, the fact he knows he is a better commander than all those around him, leads him to dissension and arguement - at least to the extent that his CO will allow.
